Afterschool
You must register for afterschool programs prior to the start of the program. Day off registrations will be taken only
when cleared by the Park and Rec. Department. Please send a note in to school with your child to notify the school of your
child's afternoon plans. Staples will not send your child to a Park and Recreation Program without a note. Program registrations
made the day a program begins or after a program starts will be subject to a $25 late fee

Peak Performance Sports Camps

Peak Performance Sports Camps will provide children a unique opportuinity to participate in various sports and activities that they play during their physical education classes but after school!  These program will be available for children grades k-5.  Floor hockey, pinball, battles hip, basketball. Tag games, wiffleball, soccer , flag football amd much, much more will be offered in a physically and mentally safe enviornment.  Best of all, the programs will be supervised by physical education teachers and classroom teachers from around the area!  Come and join us—don’t miss out on the fun! Trifitness Running Club

The after school Trifitness Running Club gives younger athletes an entry into the popular, fun and healthy sport of running.  HAVE FUN while learning how to develop and improve your running skills in a relaxed atmosphere with your friends.  Led by Pascale Butcher, All American Triathlete and owner of Trifitness of Fairfield, children will learn proper stretching, running, pacing and cool down techniques as they run and have FUN!  Graduates will have the opportunity to participate in a real road race with their new running buddies if they wish.

Martial Arts/Karate

This returning program will help your children develop many skills, such as discipline, focus and concentration.  It’s proven that children who practice martial arts do better at school, home, and are more physically fit.  The program will include karate, tae kwon do aikido, ju-jitsu, and other various systems of self defense.  The course will also include bully busting and stranger danger. Students will also have the opportunity to achieve certain belts throughout the program.   This will be a continuous program throughout the entire school year and students will test for belt advancement throughout the program.   Instructor: Assembly of the Martial Arts Academy

Performing Arts Programs, inc.--acting

In this seven week class, students will be introduced to theater games, concentration exercises, basic voice 
and speech, improvisational exercises, creative movement, imagination play, sense work and basic stage skills.
 The workshop will focus on developing each child’s creativity and self-confidence, while inspiring your imagination

Berlitz Language Classes

The Berlitz Method, which is an immersion technique, is a communicative approach that focuses on real proficiency, yet our programs for children incorporate age-appropriate activities in the target language to promote learning language in context.  Students are motivated to use language accurately, appropriately and coherently by participating in proactive activities according to their age level.  Students are able to produce creative writing, sing songs, act out role-plays, and perform skits in the target language.  Native-fluent instructors allow students the opportunity to learn authentic pronunciation and gain a broader perspective in cultural awareness.  This program is 25 weeks and is offered in Spanish,French ,Italian, or Mandarin. Please indicate language selection on form.  Minimum enrollment per class is 8.

Fairfield County Tennis Indoor Lessons

Get started early on your tennis season!  Fairfield County Tennis (Little Spinners) is offering indoor lessons at
 Staples Elementary School gymnasium. Classes will focus on the teaching of basic strokes along with playing lots 
of fun games. Portable nets will be set used and classes will be taught by certified instructors with a ratio of 6 
students to one instructor. Students will need to bring their own rackets.  Space is very limited in this

Mad Science-Academy of Future Space Explorers
Explore the farthest reaches of our solar system and create lunar eclipse in a “Mad” planetary tour.  
Journey through a soapy galaxy as you investigate the life cycle of stars.  Race a balloon rocket and design
your own car engine as you learn about thrust.  Investigate the four forces of flight with the help of a unique 
flying object!  Build your own Skyblazer II rocket plus other cool experiments that you can take home.  The classes 
are out of this world!

Mad Science-Crazy Chemworks
Shake up a flask in the lab as you launch your chemistry career with some awesome laboratory experiments.  
Manipulate matter in all of its three states with some really “cool” dry ice activities.  Ooze into the fun when 
sliming around with Professor Beakerdude!  Probe the properties of light with some spectacular glow-in-the-dark technology.

Engineering FUNdamentals with Lego

Together with  play-well technologies, learn how to design and build motorized machines, houses, pyramids, bridges, catapults, buildings and other constructions. Explore concepts in physics, mechanical and structural engineering and architecture while playing with your favorite creations. Participants will be given instruction, design challenges and competitions appropriate to their ability. This is a hands-on and minds-on class suitable for LEGO® building system novices to “maniacs.” Limited Enrollment.

DRAW & PAINT WITH CINDY JACKSON

Each week, your child will be able to take home a finished “masterpiece”! We will go step-by-step through drawing and painting with a focus on color and brush strokes. Students will create paintings on canvas from various artists.  All materials will be provided.  Sessions will be 5 classes. Space is limited to 8 students per session.

Creative Kids Yoga  

Creative Kids Yoga is a playful, innovative approach to movement that combines yoga and dance to improve concentration, support body / brain development, promote imagination, and achieve optimal health for children of all ages and abilities. Children learn yoga postures and creative dance concepts through games, drama, problem solving and improvisation.  Self-esteem will grow along with creativity, focus, and self-expression.  Wear comfortable clothes; although it is not necessary, you can bring a yoga mat to class.

Animation Moviemaker

Clay and animation, what a perfect combination! Working in teams, students do it all, from story creation to making the characters and building the sets.  As they learn the production process they will use digital camera and computer software to animate, record, download, assemble and edit their own movies. Their final masterpiece will be copied onto a CD for the students to take home for all to enjoy! NXT® Robotics

The NXT robots from Mindstorms Robotics provide wonderful hands-on opportunities for the students to experiment with robotics and learn about computer programming. We will be building NXT robots this session and focus on the use of ultrasonic sensor and computer software program to control their movements and create greeting messages for the NXT robots.
